Acid Free
No free acids are present due to care taken in the manufacturing of the pulp to eliminate any active acid. Only uses alkaline additives. Acid free papers can be used for wrapping or storing jewellery, china, silver or photographs.
Australian Made
Stocks that display this symbol are manufactured in Australia.
Carbon Neutral Certified (NCOS)
This logo applies to a paper that has had its carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions calculated; reduced where possible; and ‘offset’ through credits that fund renewable emission free energy products. Products displaying the ‘certified carbon neutral logo’ indicate the offset has already been factored into the price and no extra charge applies.
Carbon Neutral Paper (NCOS)
A carbon neutral paper means the paper has been manufactured by a paper mill that has measured their entire carbon footprint, ie: how many greenhouse gases (carbon emissions) they produce through the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, manufacturing and transportation, ie: their impact on the environment. The next step is to minimise and offset all of these carbon emissions to zero.
Certified Carbon Neutral
This logo applies to a paper that has had its carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions calculated; reduced where possible; and ‘offset’ through credits that fund renewable emission free energy products. Calculations have been independently audited and include scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions from raw material (seedling) through to end of life (landfill/disposal). Often referred to as a cradle to grave, this measurement accounts for emissions that have actually occurred plus it encompasses those that will most likely occur after delivery at the printer such as packaging, further transport, waste disposal, end of life. Products displaying the ‘certified carbon neutral logo’ indicate the offset has already been factored into the price and no extra charge applies.
Dry Toner
Compatible for use in digital toner based printing equipment, subject to machine type and specifications. Prior testing is always recommended.
Durability
Where durability is important.
Eco Solvent Inkjet
Compatible for use in wide format eco solvent inkjet printing equipment, subject to machine type and specifications. Prior testing is always recommended.
Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF)
Paper that is made without the use of elemental chlorine. ECF pulp is produced with a bleaching alternative that serves to reduce harmful by-products.
Envelopes
DL business size 110 x 220mm envelope available.
FDA Certified
Products that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) have deemed suitable for direct contact with food and medical products. Contact your account manager for more information.
Food Contact
This paper has been tested and approved for use and contact with food and foodstuffs. Some restrictions may apply.
FSC
Pulp sourced from forests that have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. FSC works to promote responsible forestry, conserve biological diversity and protect old growth forests. FSC also includes a ‘Chain Of Custody’ system that tracks paper from the forest, all the way to finished material offering clients complete paper trace-ability.
Inkjet
Compatible for use in inkjet printing equipment, subject to machine type and specifications. Prior testing is always recommended.
ISO 14001 EMS
Paper is manufactured by a mill that is accredited with ISO 14001, the international standard for organising and achieving continual improvement in environmental management systems. This standard reviews the total manufacturing process and seeks continuous improvement in aspects such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and pollution control.
ISO 9706 Long Life
Papers displaying this symbol are guaranteed by international standards to last up to 100 years.
Laser Compatible
Mill compatible for use in laser printers, subject to manufacturer’s guidance on grammage and use. Prior testing is always recommended.
Laser Guaranteed
Mill guaranteed for use in laser printers, subject to manufacturer’s guidance on grammage and use. Prior testing is always recommended.
Latex Inkjet
Compatible for use in wide format latex inkjet printing equipment, subject to machine type and specifications. Prior testing is always recommended.
Made Carbon Neutral (Mohawk)
A product and/or operation that have had their carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions;
1) Calculated
2) Reduced where possible and
3) ‘Offset’ through credits that fund renewable, emission free energy products. The Kyoto Protocol mandates that these offsets must be “real, verifiable and additional to what would have otherwise occurred”.
This logo applies to Mohawk products only – Strathmore Premium Super Smooth, Strathmore Premium Enhance, Strathmore Premium Wove and Strathmore Premium Cambric.
Manufactured with Windpower (Mohawk)
Mohawk produce all their papers with the use of 100% wind-generated electricity. Wind energy is emission free and completely renewable. This form of electricity is generated by resources that produce little or no pollution.
Normal Inks
Traditional offset inks may be used instead of quick drying oxidising inks.
Optional Carbon Neutral
You will see it only as an indication that the paper has undergone a complete lifecycle analysis and can be offset for an additional fee.
Paper Made Carbon Neutral
This logo applies to a paper that has had its carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions calculated; reduced where possible; and ‘offset’ through credits that fund renewable emission free energy products. Calculations have been independently audited and include scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions from raw material (seedling) through to customer (either KWD warehouses or printer). The majority of carbon neutral papers that we offer, fall under this cradle to customer model. Meaning the auditors have accounted for and offset all the greenhouse gas emissions for the actual processes that take place up until we hand the paper over. This measurement allows the printer the claim of ‘printing on carbon neutral paper’ and the use of the ‘paper made carbon neutral logo’. However, any accompanying marketing statements must be clear that the claim relates to the paper and not the book or pamphlet etc. Products displaying the ‘paper made carbon neutral logo’ indicate the offset has already been factored into the price and no extra charge applies.
PEFC
PEFC is a framework for auditing forestry operations and promoting sustainable forest management by actively reducing the effects on the environment.
Process Chlorine Free (PCF)
Made from post consumer recycled fibre and processed without the use of any additional chlorine or chlorine compounds.
Recycled
Paper made up of recycled fibres which have been extracted from existing paper products, to be used in the manufacture of further paper products. Recycled paper can be 100% recycled or consist of a mixture of pre and post consumer waste along with some virgin fibre to add strength.
Pre Consumer Waste
Only types of waste from the mill itself, such as offcuts or broke.
Post Consumer Waste
Paper has been used in some form after leaving the mill. Gathered as offcuts from paper merchants, office waste or printed waste through household recycling.
Wood Free
Paper that is free from wood based impurities such as lignin which is found in the plant structure. Removed by a chemical pulp process, leaving only pure cellulose, the ideal substance to make paper. Stops discolouration problems. Also an environmental issue as no bleaching is generally necessary once lignin is removed.
Responsible Forestry Practices
Fibre used in the production of paper that shows this symbol is sourced from pulp suppliers who practice responsible forestry techniques and/or use paper from managed plantation forests.
Screen Print
Suitable for use in screen printing equipment using traditional screen printing inks.
Solvent Inkjet
Compatible for use in wide format solvent inkjet printing equipment, subject to machine type and specifications. Prior testing is always recommended.
Special Ink
Traditional or conventional offset inks are not recommended. Please use inks manufactured specifically for printing on synthetics. Contact your preferred ink supplier for recommendations.
Strength
Where strength is important.
Totally Chlorine Free (TCF)
No chlorine or chlorine derivatives are used in the bleaching process. TCF cannot apply to recycled papers, because the source fibre cannot be determined.
UV Inkjet
Compatible for use in wide format UV inkjet printing equipment, subject to machine type and specifications. Prior testing is always recommended.
Water Resistant
Where water resistance is important.
Watermarked
Brand names, logos and other designs are imparted on the sheet by a dandy roll in the paper making process.
